Hello, Kids! my name is Pinocchio! Your dear, timeless Pinocchio, protagonist of many adventures that will never stop thrilling young and grown up readers, inspiring movies, theatre performances, poets and musicians!
Everybody knows me, but only few, I think, know my story. No, I’m not talking about my adventures, from my “birth” from a wood log to the yearned transformation into a child after more than one trouble. I’m talking about my creation by the genius of Collodi. You must know that my dad (not Japheth, but the one who brought me to life with his fantasy), was called Carlo Lorenzin. Shop boy for a bookshop, editor, journalist, patriot, author and translator of fairytales under the pen name of Collodi, accepted to write for the “Children’s journal” an episode-story published between 1881 and 1883, matched with lovely illustrations. This story had immediately a huge success, and once it was over, it was immediately collected in a book that had the same fate: this is how a great literary masterpiece was born, that has been translated in all the languages of the world… And now it came to my mind to ask to a publisher from Florence to publish again, in this volume, that edition of many years ago with all its lovely, simple illustrations, included the drop caps at the beginning of the chapters; because it would be so good if you kids (and maybe, also the grown up) had the opportunity to read my adventures like the children of that time, like the great grandpas of your dads! Among those drawings, just for you information, there is also my very first picture, appeared in the episode of 16th February 1882: so, if you want to see the first, very first Pinocchio, you only have to go through these pages! And I can assure you, that it will be fun!
